The fireROD XL is Exotac's biggest fire starter ever! the fireROD XL is the bigger brother to the fireROD and has been brought to life by popular demand. Not only is it larger, but it also includes repair tape which can be burned to aid in starting a fire. The fireROD Series was created to be the perfect fire-starting tool for carry in a ferro-loop on a knife sheath. The ferrocerium rod is replaceable so you won't need to discard this tool when the rod is worn out. The design is simple, highly reliable and offers plenty of storage for tinder or water purification tablets.

It works but so dose the $5 one that is the same size… it is a fancy handle and a nice large diameter on a long rod that throws a lot of sparks and it has storage for a Cotten ball in the handle… but as I said the $5 one dose the same thing just with out the handle
This is price gouging at its best, only the people who think more is better will buy this, I was gifted one and I bought the Wildiar one for ten bucks and you can not tell them apart, I’ve been using both long term and both work fine, so why pay more when you can get the same for less, ridiculous.

The fireROD XL is awesome it throws a nice shower of sparks and the o-ring sealed tinder box/handle is awesome and has room for a little bit more if you feel the need. If you wear it out you can order a replacement rod and not have to buy the whole thing again which is awesome. I would like to build one like it that holds a 1/2" magnesium rod so I kind of have a matching set. Even the paracord for the lanyard has a red wax coated tinder inside of it for more tinder options and the duck tape can be ripped into strips for tinder or used to patch a rip id give this firerod a 9/10 I think only thing I'd change is putting beads on the lanyard for use as ranger beads/pace counting.
A superior quality product as we all have come to expect from Exotac. I have several smaller models and this 1/2" Ferro rod is built like a tank and should last a very long time.
